My name is Jackie 🙂
I chose the name JET Setting because it is well my initials for starters and it is the perfect depiction of my life and what I love. Traveling has always been a big part of my life. One of my favorite places to be is in the airport, because I know if I am in there I am most likely going somewhere. Most of my life I have dreamed of living life the way that I am now living it. I feel blessed to be able to wake up, do what I love, where I love and be at peace all at once.
I decided to start blogging/vlogging July of 2021. At this same time I was in the process of becoming what people consider a “digital nomad”. I had just started working for a new company that is 100% remote and allows me to travel and work with no problems. I personally considered myself a nomad prior to this, based on the fact that I have moved about 18 or 19 times in the last 10 years. I have never been one to be content in one place and I believe that all stems from me deciding from childhood that once I was able to move away from the north I would do so. It took me 4 years to get from Delaware to Florida with a couple stops in between in Virginia and Georgia. My ultimate goal was to get to the sunshine state and eventually back to Jamaica.
One thing I knew for certain growing up in Delaware is that I did not want to spend the rest of my life living in the cold. After all I am a Caribbean gal…Born and raised… if the temperature is not above 70 degrees I am COLD. That love for warm weather and palm trees led me to Florida. The only state I claim in the USA as home. As crazy as Florida may be, I do love living there.
However, I am a Jamaican through and through. My love for my little island is insurmountable. There is nothing to me like waking up and seeing the beauty of Jamaica; the lush vegetation, the food, the music, the ocean, the rivers, and most importantly the people. Jamaicans are a different set of people; I almost want to compare them to the fans of any Philadelphia sports team during the winning seasons :-).
I have been given the privilege of coming back to Jamaica and living here on a short term/long term basis. It has truly opened my eyes to so many things. I left Jamaica as a child in 1995, so coming back here to live and not just on vacation was a big step for me. I will admit I was a bit nervous at first and I was not sure how things would pan out. However, one thing I did know was that I was built for this… I love stepping out of my comfort zone, doing something different, trying something new and seeing where things take me.
Lucky and blessed for me… Life has taken me back to the place I have always loved.
